United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate Aryadan Shoukath has declared that Nilambur will return to the UDF regardless of who stands as the Opposition candidate. Speaking to the media after offering floral tributes at the memorial of senior Congress leader K. Karunakaran at Muraleemandiram, in Punkunnam, Mr. Shoukath said the spirit of the veteran leader continues to guide his campaign.
Mr. Shoukath, who reached Thrissur at 6 a.m. on nomination day, said he was extremely happy to begin the election process by honouring the memory of a leader who defined Kerala’s Congress politics. “Starting the day with his blessings gave me the feeling that he is with me in this battle,” he remarked.
Having kicked-off his campaign early, Mr. Shoukath expressed confidence that he would surpass the majority once secured by his father, the late Aryadan Muhammed. “This marks the beginning of a strong battle in Nilambur to bring an end to nine years of oppressive and disastrous Left rule,” he said, adding that the legacy of leaders like Karunakaran continues to inspire the fight to restore true Congress values in Kerala.
The event saw the presence of several senior leaders including Thrissur District Congress Committee president Joseph Tajet, M.P. Vincent, T.V. Chandramohan and others.
