UDUPI: A 26-year-old woman lodged a complaint against her husband and in-laws, accusing them of harassment, a dowry demand of Rs 60 lakh, and threats of divorce.The complainant claimed that she was engaged to Nithish N on Oct 16, 2023, and married him on Dec 8, the same year.
After marriage, the complainant went to live with her husband in his house in Mangaluru.
Within the first week of marriage, the complainant learnt that the accused, Nithish, falsely claimed before marriage that he was working as a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer at MRPL. She alleged that within 4–5 days of the marriage, she was mentally harassed, and her husband and family members abused her with filthy language and issued threats.
They demanded that she help financially to build a house and threatened that otherwise, his elder brother would get her divorced.The accused further threatened the complainant and demanded Rs 60 lakh from her parents or accept divorce. She alleged that on August 11, her husband went to her parents' home, abused them with filthy language, and demanded divorce. He even tried to remove the mangalsutra from the complainant’s neck. When the complainant’s parents tried to intervene, they were pushed, she alleged. A case was registered under sections 85, 352, 351(2), 115(2) along with 3(5) of BNS at Kundapur police station.
