UDUPI: A man reportedly fell prey to an online fraud and lost Rs 48,500. In a complaint, Umesh, a Union Bank account holder, stated that on August 30, while at home, he started receiving messages from unknown numbers on his mobile. At 10:48 am, he received a message stating that his Union Bank ATM PIN was reset and a new PIN generated. Soon after, he received another message notifying a debit of Rs 48,500 from his account.When he approached the bank branch to inquire, he was informed that the money was credited to an unknown account. It is suspected that an unidentified person allegedly changed the ATM PIN of the complainant’s bank account and transferred Rs 48,500 to another account. Based on his complaint, a case was registered at Udupi Town Police Station under Sections 318(4) BNS and 66(D) of the IT Act.
