“ULTIMATE ICON” — LeBron James sends love to his long time Hollywood pal Jamie Foxx after his latest achievement at BET Awards 2025

The 2025 BET Awards delivered an emotional high point when Jamie Foxx was honored with the Ultimate Icon Award. As the 57-year-old entertainer took the stage at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, the crowd erupted in applause. Among those cheering from afar was LeBron James, who showed love to his longtime friend with a heartfelt message on X.

While the Lakers star usually spends June chasing NBA titles, this summer, he had time to tune in and celebrate Black excellence.

LeBron James didn’t hold back in praising Jamie Foxx for his big moment at the BET Awards 2025. Taking to X, James wrote, “🫡 @iamjamiefoxx BET ‘ULTIMATE ICON’!! Love my brother and CONGRATULATIONS!!!! 🙏🏾🤎💪🏾.” The NBA legend and the Oscar-winning actor have been friends for years, and James’ support extended the bond they’ve shared both on and off the spotlight.

Foxx’s acceptance speech became the emotional centerpiece of the night. Introduced by Stevie Wonder, he reflected on surviving a terrifying health crisis in April 2023, when a brain bleed left him in a coma. With raw emotion, Foxx told the audience, “When I saw the ‘In Memoriam’ [portion of the awards show], I was like, man, that could have been me.”

Tears welled in his eyes as he continued, “I don’t know why I went through what I went through, but I know my second chance—I’m not going to turn down.”

He thanked God, his sister Deidre Dixon, and especially his daughters Corinne and Anelise. “My baby with the big hair… snuck into my hospital room with her guitar and said, ‘I know what my daddy needs.’ And as she played the guitar, my vitals dropped,” he recalled. “I knew God was in that guitar.

”Foxx added, “I say this all the time, thank you to Black people and the Black award, because this is what really counts.” He emphasized that despite winning an Oscar and receiving multiple nominations, the BET honor meant the most.

“The Icon Award is the most important award because it comes from us.”His heartfelt words were followed by a medley tribute featuring Jennifer Hudson, Babyface, T-Pain, and others.
