The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau seized ₹32,200 from a senior superintendent at the Kannur Regional Transport Office (RTO) during a surprise inspection on Thursday night.

Acting on confidential information that the official was collecting bribes through an intermediary from applicants seeking registration, re-registration, hypothecation cancellation permits, and other services, a special team from the Kozhikode Vigilance cell intercepted the official at Thayyil around 8 p.m. The official was travelling home in his own car when the unaccounted cash was found.

The lightning inspection, which began at 8.30 p.m. and continued till 10 p.m., was followed by a search at the Kannur RTO. According to officials, the bribe money was handed over to the official after office hours by the intermediary.

Vigilance Director Manoj Abraham urged the public to report corruption cases by dialing the toll-free number 1064-8592900900 or through WhatsApp at 94477-89100.
