Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman visited the historic Virupaksha temple at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hampi in Karnataka, on October 15. The Minister offered prayers to Lord Virupaksha, and later received blessings from Lakshmi, the temple’s famous elephant.
She was accompanied by Lok Sabha member from Ballari E. Tukaram, her private secretary Anirudh Sravan, Deputy Commissioner Kavita S. Mannikeri, and Anegundi royal family descendant Sri Krishnadevaraya.
The temple premises witnessed tight security arrangements during the Minister’s brief visit.
Ms. Sitharaman was in the region to participate in a series of events organised in Koppal and Vijayanagara districts, including the inauguration of Farmers’ Training and Common Facility Centres for agro processing at Methagal in Koppal district.
