Union min refutes Purnia MP’s claims about creating new UT

Patna: Union minister of state for home, Nityanand Rai, on Saturday outrightly refuted the claims of Purnia MP Rajesh Ranjan aka Pappu Yadav that the Centre has any plan to form a Union Territory by merging some districts of Bihar and Bengal.“It is entirely baseless and has no truth to it. I want to make it clear that no one should take Pappu Yadav’s social media posts seriously,” Rai said.In fact, the Purnia MP claimed Friday that the BJP plans to impose President’s rule in West Bengal and pass a resolution in the Bihar assembly to create a new Union Territory by combining Seemanchal region and some districts of West Bengal.The Union minister said the Purnia MP is spreading such rumours to mislead people.

“Pappu Yadav should not try to mislead people. People should not pay any attention to rumours,” Rai stated in a press statement.“I want to reiterate that there is no plan to create a Union Territory by merging some districts of Bihar and West Bengal,” Rai said.Pappu had stated that this proposed Union Territory could include Kishanganj, Purnia, Araria, and Katihar from Seemanchal, along with Malda, Murshidabad and North Dinajpur in West Bengal. He also alleged that the same political plan could be the reason behind “shifting CM Nitish Kumar to the Rajya Sabha and appointing a new governor in Bihar and Bengal”.
