Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar on Saturday (August 30) emphasised the need for better coordination between the Centre and State in expediting pending Railway and housing projects across the Guntur Parliamentary constituency. Chairing a review meeting at the Collectorate, he said special reviews are being conducted from time to time to ensure the smooth progress of development works.
Dr. Sekhar noted that tenders for several railway bridges, including LC Nos. 3 and 6 on the Guntur–Namburu–Nallapadu–Bandarupalli–Palakaluru stretch, have been completed and foundation would be laid soon for it. He assured that hurdles in the Mangalagiri–Nidamarru works are being addressed, while steps are being taken to resolve land and encroachment issues at the Pedakakani gate for the construction of a Road Over Bridge. He also informed that ₹5 crore has already been sanctioned for modernising the new Guntur Railway Station.
On housing, the Minister expressed concern that of the 13,000 houses constructed by the previous government in remote areas, only 300 have been occupied due to lack of transport and infrastructure. He said monthly reviews will now be held to ensure proper facilities and resolve issues related to house pattas and objections.
Local MLA Mohammed Naseer Ahmad thanked the Union Minister for extending support and assured that land-related issues of poor families will be addressed with government backing. Mayor Kovelamudi Ravindrababu, Collector S. Nagalakshmi, Railway DRM Sudeshna Sen and other officials participated.
