United Hospital, a leading accident, trauma and critical care facility in Kalaburagi, on Friday, paid a solemn tribute to Sharanabaswappa Appa, the 8th Peetadhipathi of the Sharanabasaveshwar Samasthan, who passed away the previous night after a prolonged age-related illness. The hospital staff, including doctors, nurses, lab technicians, and Group-D employees, gathered on the hospital premises to offer floral tributes to the departed spiritual leader.

Led by the hospital’s Managing Director, Vikram Siddareddy, the staff observed a moment of silence and recalled the towering contributions of Appa in the spheres of religion, education, and social service.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Siddareddy noted that Appa had transformed the educationally backward Kalaburagi and surrounding districts into an education hub by establishing a number of institutions.

“Sharanabaswappa Appa was not just a revered spiritual leader of the region, but a visionary who transformed Kalaburagi into an education hub. His commitment to spreading knowledge and values has left an indelible mark on society,” he said.

He further added that Appa’s role in founding Sharnbasva University and strengthening the institutions under the Sharanabasaveshwar Vidya Vardhak Sangha had opened doors of opportunity for thousands of young people, particularly poor students from the backward Kalyana Karnataka region.

“Appa believed education was the most powerful tool for social change, and he lived that philosophy throughout his life. His initiatives extended beyond education. His guidance in social and cultural life created a strong foundation for inclusive development. He was a bridge between tradition and modernity, drawing people from all sections of society,” Dr. Siddareddy observed.

The hospital management described Appa’s demise as an irreparable loss to the region. “We at United Hospital join lakhs of devotees in mourning his passing. His ideals will continue to inspire us to serve society with compassion, humility, and dedication,” Dr. Siddareddy remarked.

The event concluded with the hospital staff – including the hospital’s Director Dr. Veena Siddareddy, senior general surgeon Dr. Mohammed Abdul Baseer, and oral maxillofacial surgeon Dr. Udupi Krishna Joshi – offering floral tributes before a portrait of Appa and pledging to uphold the values of service and humanity that he championed.
