Bruno Fernandes' stoppage time penalty gave Manchester United a 3-2 win over Burnley, easing pressure on Ruben Amorim. Chelsea, Bournemouth, Everton, and Sunderland also won.

Bruno Fernandes eased the pressure on Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, netting a last-minute penalty to secure a 3-2 victory over Burnley, while Thomas Frank experienced his first Premier League defeat as Tottenham manager on Saturday.
United were close to another disappointing result just days after a humiliating League Cup second-round loss to fourth-tier Grimsby, as promoted Burnley twice equalized at Old Trafford.
Amorim had confessed post-Grimsby that he sometimes contemplates quitting and often feels frustrated with his players.
His mood would have worsened if not for United captain Fernandes, who came to the rescue seven minutes into stoppage time.
United’s first win in three league games this season provides Amorim some much-needed respite ahead of the international break, although the Portuguese coach’s inconsistent team performance will still raise questions.
United had some luck when they took the lead in the 26th minute. Casemiro’s header bounced off the crossbar, hit Burnley captain Josh Cullen’s back, and ricocheted over the line before Martin Dubravka could intervene.
Lyle Foster leveled for Burnley with a 55th-minute goal from Jacob Bruun Larsen’s cross.
Bryan Mbeumo restored United’s lead just 15 seconds later, converting Diogo Dalot’s cutback for his first league goal since moving from Brentford.
United’s defensive issues surfaced again as Jaidon Anthony equalized in the 66th minute. Altay Bayindir spilled Loum Tchaouna’s shot, and Anthony poked the loose ball goalwards, with Kobbie Mainoo’s attempted clearance rebounding in off the United goalkeeper.
In the final moments, Anthony pulled Amad Diallo, and after a lengthy VAR check, it was determined that the foul continued into the area, resulting in a controversial penalty that Fernandes converted to Amorim’s relief.
“I was frustrated like any Man United fan; we had chances to score more goals. But today we were the better team," Amorim said. “Sometimes we were not playing so well, but you can see the effort of everyone on the pitch wanting to win."
Bournemouth dominate Smurs
Tottenham were defeated 1-0 by Bournemouth, ending Frank’s strong start since he took over from the sacked Ange Postecoglou in the close-season.
Tottenham had won their first two league games under Frank without conceding, including a 2-0 victory at Manchester City last weekend. But Evanilson scored in the fifth minute with a deflected shot, giving Bournemouth their second win of the season.
Chelsea enjoy VAR benefit
Leaders Chelsea benefited from VAR controversy to beat Fulham 2-0, with the visitors left frustrated by several costly decisions at Stamford Bridge. Enzo Maresca’s side, with seven points from three games, were fortunate not to fall behind when Fulham were denied a first-half opener.
Josh King’s strike was ruled out after VAR deemed Rodrigo Muniz’s accidental collision with Trevoh Chalobah a foul. Joao Pedro then put Chelsea ahead beyond the scheduled eight minutes of stoppage time at the end of the first half. Chelsea’s second goal also came from VAR intervention, as Ryan Sessegnon was adjudged to have handled a cross, leading to Enzo Fernandez’s converted penalty.
Grealish shines again for Everton
Jack Grealish starred in Everton’s 3-2 win over Wolves at Molineux. Beto headed Everton in front from Grealish’s flick after seven minutes, before Wolves forward Hwang Hee-chan leveled in the 21st minute.
Iliman Ndiaye restored Everton’s lead in the 33rd minute, finishing a move involving on-loan Manchester City winger Grealish and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. Dewsbury-Hall scored Everton’s third goal from Grealish’s pass in the 55th minute, before Rodrigo Gomes reduced the deficit in the 79th minute.
Sunderland staged an impressive comeback to beat Brentford 2-1 at the Stadium of Light.
