India strongly rejected references to Jammu and Kashmir in a joint statement issued by China and Pakistan, calling them “unwarranted" and reiterating that the Jammu and Kashmir remain an integral and inalienable part of the country. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said India “categorically rejects unwarranted references" to the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir in the joint statement issued by the two countries.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated that India’s position on Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh is “consistent and well known", adding that both Union Territories “have been, are and will always remain" an integral part of India. The MEA also said no other country has the “locus standi" to comment on the matter.
The joint statement released by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Islamabad had briefed the Chinese side on developments in Jammu and Kashmir. It added that China described the issue as “left over from history" and said it should be resolved “peacefully in accordance with the UN Charter, relevant UN Security Council resolutions and bilateral agreements."

The wording closely mirrors a similar formulation used in a 2024 China-Pakistan joint statement, which also referred to Jammu and Kashmir as a “left over from history" and called for a peaceful resolution. At the time, India had rejected those references as “unwarranted" and reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of the country.
India has also repeatedly objected to references linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), parts of which it says pass through territory under “illegal and forcible occupation" by Pakistan. New Delhi has maintained its opposition to such projects, stating that they violate India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
On Tuesday, India further rejected references to so-called “trans-boundary water resources cooperation" between China and Pakistan, saying the two countries do not share a boundary and therefore such framing is not valid. It also reiterated that it does not recognise the 1963 boundary agreement between China and Pakistan.
“We have also seen references to the so-called ‘trans-boundary water resources cooperation’ between China and Pakistan. As the two countries do not share any boundary, the question of so-called ‘trans-boundary water resources cooperation’ does not arise. India has never recognized the so-called 1963 boundary agreement between Pakistan and China," the MEA noted.
India has consistently opposed what it describes as attempts by Pakistan to internationalise the Kashmir issue, maintaining that the matter is strictly bilateral and that its territorial position remains unchanged.
