In a significant push for green mobility, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister on Friday flagged off three hydrogen-powered buses and 45 electric buses in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) area.
The buses have been developed under the Green Hydrogen-Based Mobility Project by NTPC Dadri and are expected to strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s transition towards green transportation. The project is also expected to generate 2,080 kilograms of oxygen per day, according to a press release.

Unlike diesel and petrol vehicles, the hydrogen fuel cell buses emit only water, eliminating concerns related to air pollution. The project reinforces UP’s role in leading this transition towards sustainable transport and environmental conservation in the country.

Special Features
One of the most notable features of this project is the use of treated water from a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), ensuring that no additional burden is placed on natural water resources.
The project will also generate 2,080 kilograms of oxygen daily, equivalent to planting approximately 1,750 trees. Furthermore, the project is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 1,000 tonnes per year.
Passenger Capacity
Each bus has a seating capacity of 42 passengers and can be filled with up to 56 kg of hydrogen at a time, enabling it to travel approximately 750 kilometers on a single fill.
The Green Hydrogen-Based Mobility Project is being regarded as a major step towards clean energy, environmental protection, and sustainable transportation.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated the Noida Electric Bus Depot through video conferencing in Lucknow. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the country the vision of green mobility and sustainable development. In line with this vision, the Uttar Pradesh Government will connect every city and village with petrol and diesel-free green mobility electric services in the coming years," he said on the occasion.
