KANPUR: Two 11-year-old twin girls were killed after their father allegedly slit their throats at Trimurti Apartment in Virat Nagar in the Naubasta police station area of Kanpur on Sunday morning, police said.
The accused, identified as Shashi Ranjan Mishra, was arrested from the spot.Police said the incident occurred at around 4:30am on Sunday. They received information through UP-112 that two minor girls had been murdered in a flat at Trimurti Apartment. When police reached the flat, they found the bodies of both girls inside the house in a blood-soaked condition.Deputy commissioner of police (South), Deependra Nath Chaudhary, said the accused was arrested and the bodies were sent for post-mortem.
He said the case was being investigated thoroughly and, after completing legal proceedings, the accused would be sent to jail. He added that a heavy police force was deployed in the area and the situation was reported to be normal.DCP South Deependra Nath Chaudhary said Mishra, a resident of Trimurti Apartment, was a medicine businessman. The family included his wife Reshma and three children, the 11-year-old twin daughters Riddhi and Siddhi, and a six-year-old son, Gannu.
He said that at 4:30am on Sunday, Reshma informed police about the murder over the phone.Police said that when they arrived, the bodies of both daughters were lying on the floor and blood was splattered throughout the house. The accused father was sitting near the bodies and was arrested at the scene. A forensic team also reached the spot and began collecting evidence.Police sources said the accused committed the act while the daughters were sleeping. They said questions were being raised about why the wife, who was present at home at the time, did not stop her husband or alerted neighbours, or whether she came to know only after the murder, and police were investigating the case from all possible angles. They said the mother was in a state of shock and was unable to speak.
