UP shocker: Man dies in suspected suicide attempt; woman critically injured near Agra–Lucknow Expressway

KANPUR: A 26-year-old man died and a woman was seriously injured in an alleged suicide attempt near the Agra–Lucknow Expressway in Etawah on Tuesday morning. The couple was found hanging from a tree in a field near the expressway. According to police, the woman survived after the noose made from a shirt slipped, causing her to fall. She is currently in critical condition and receiving treatment at the Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences in Saifai. The man was identified as Asit Yadav, a resident of Hiddhapurapura. As per his aunt, he had left home six days ago, telling the family he was travelling by lorry. Police said the incident may have been triggered after the woman’s family confronted Asit the day before, accusing him of running away with their daughter and threatening him. Villagers discovered the man’s body and immediately alerted the police. “Initial enquiries indicate the two were involved in a romantic relationship. A post-mortem examination of the deceased is underway,” said Station House Officer Vipin Malik, who confirmed the man’s death and the woman’s hospitalisation
