A newlywed woman in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun eloped with her lover just days after the wedding. Her husband, instead of looking for her or taking any legal action, accepted her decision to live with her lover, saying, "Good thing I was spared from becoming another Raja Raghuvanshi!"
Khushboo married Sunil on May 17 and went to her in-laws' home the next day. She stayed there for nine days and then returned to her maiden home as part of the wedding tradition. She then eloped with her lover from there.
Sunil filed a complaint at the local police station after his wife went missing. While the police were searching for her, Khushboo herself appeared at the police station on Monday and confessed that she had run away with her lover.
“Now I want to live with my lover," she said.
Sunil surprisingly accepted her wish and let her go.
“After she left, I had planned to take her to Nainital for our honeymoon. But if she wants to be with her lover, I’m happy too. Good thing I was spared from becoming another Raja Raghuvanshi! Now all three of us are happy — my wife and her lover have found love, and my life has been saved from ruin,” he said.
The matter was settled amicably at the police station, where both Khushboo and Sunil agreed on a mutual settlement. The jewellery and other items given to Khushboo at the time of marriage were returned by her side, and no legal action was pursued by either party.
“The bride refused to stay with her husband and insisted on going with her lover. By mutual agreement between both families, the exchanged items were returned. Everything has been officially documented. The bride left the police station with her lover, and the groom’s family returned home,” said Harendra Singh, Station House Officer.
With the agreement officially recorded, the matter has been closed without further legal complications.
