As they say that a mother can go to any extent to save her child, this incident backs it up quite remarkably. A woman in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, risked her life and wrestled with a crocodile with her bare hands, to save her five-year-old son from being dragged by the predator. The incident occurred on Monday evening in Dhakia village.

As per a report by Times of India, 40-year-old Maya rushed outside her house upon hearing her five-year-old son, Veeru, screaming. What she saw left her awestruck for a moment as her son was being dragged by a crocodile into the water. The child was playing near a drain and suddenly a crocodile emerged from the water and grabbed him.

Eyewitnesses described a harrowing five-minute struggle between Maya and the crocodile. Maya fearlessly confronted the creature, initially using her hands and later an iron rod to free her son from its powerful jaws.

“I screamed and without thinking about my life, I jumped in," Maya was quoted as saying by TOI.

“The crocodile was pulling him down, but I held on with all my strength. I hit it, clawed at it, and refused to let go. For what felt like endless minutes, I fought with everything I had. Finally, it released my child after a blow from an iron rod I had grabbed. My son has survived and that is what matters," she added.

Both Maya and Veeru suffered injuries in the incident. While Maya was treated for bruises and discharged, Veeru remains under medical care due to serious wounds.

Former village head, Rajkumar Singh, notified local authorities. A team led by Divisional Forest Officer Ram Singh Yadav and SDO Rashid Jameel visited the site and met the family. Yadav assured that a special operation would be conducted to locate and capture the crocodile.
