Santosh Sivan's 2011 film 'Urumi' may not have minted huge numbers at the box office, but the Prithviraj Sukumaran starrer was surely a game-changer.Now the writer-filmmaker Shankar Ramakrishnan has revealed that he has completed the script, and it took him over 12 years to complete it.
'Urumi 2' in works
Speaking in an interview with Sabha TV, Ramakrishnan explained that 'Urumi' was always about reviving a forgotten cultural memory of Kerala. For the sequel, he has envisioned two follow-up films, and one script is now complete. “It took me 12 years to finish it. The story is set in Kerala, 100 years after the events of Urumi,” he said.
During the interview, Shankar Ramakrishnan revealed that the main location for the sequel will be Vadakara, and the team is set to start the work on costume design, casting, and also detailed research. From his words, it's sure that the sequel will be a grand affair. While the writer has confirmed the sequel for 'Urumi', it remains to be seen whether Santosh Sivan will be donning the director's cap and Prithviraj Sukumaran will be playing the lead.
What fans can expect from 'Urumi Part Two'
In 'Urumi', Prithviraj Sukumaran brings Chirakkal Kelu Nayanar to life, a young warrior whose world is turned upside down when Vasco da Gama kills his father. From that day, Kelu considers him his sworn enemy.
The whole story revolved around his revenge on Vasco da Gama. The climax sequences of the film received much praise from the audience for their execution style. Also, the epic movie was produced on a limited budget.On the other hand, Prithviraj Sukumaran's previous outing was 'Empuraan ', which received mixed reviews although it minted good numbers at the box office.Meanwhile, Santosh Sivan's previous directorial venture was the Manju Warrier starrer 'Jack and Jill', which flopped at the box office with negative reviews from the audience.
