The Trump administration is set to deport several US lawful permanent residents for allegedly supporting and collaborating with leaders of Viv Ansanm, a designated Foreign Terrorist Organisation (FTO) fuelling violence and instability in Haiti.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the decision in a statement on Tuesday, citing national security and foreign policy concerns.

“I am pleased to announce the latest US actions against individuals whose presence and activities in our country have potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences for the United States," said Secretary Rubio.

The Department of State has determined that these individuals, despite holding lawful permanent resident status, have actively supported gang leaders tied to Viv Ansanm. The organisation is widely recognised for its role in escalating criminal violence and unrest in Haiti.

“Viv Ansanm is a driver of the violence and criminality in Haiti, contributing to the island’s instability," Rubio added. “The United States will not allow individuals to enjoy the benefits of legal status in our country while they are facilitating the actions of violent organisations or supporting criminal terrorist organisations."

Following the State Department’s determination, the Department of Homeland Security is authorised to initiate removal proceedings under Section 237(a)(4)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which allows deportation of non-citizens whose presence is deemed harmful to US foreign policy.

“These new actions demonstrate the Trump Administration’s firm commitment to protecting the American people, advancing our national security interests, and promoting regional security and stability," Secretary Rubio concluded.

This move underscores the administration’s aggressive stance on national security and immigration enforcement, particularly in cases involving support for designated terrorist organisations.
