The stars of world tennis are steadily converging on the business end of the US Open 2025, with Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, and Aryna Sabalenka all marching confidently into the quarter-finals on Sunday.

Spanish second seed Carlos Alcaraz stayed on track for a potential semi-final blockbuster with Novak Djokovic, brushing aside France’s Arthur Rinderknech in straight sets on Sunday.

The 2022 US Open champion had to grit his teeth in a tense opening set before finding his rhythm, eventually prevailing 7-6 (7/3), 6-3, 6-4 under the lights of Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Alcaraz, who at just 22 years old already owns five Grand Slam titles, will next face Czech 20th seed Jiri Lehecka on Tuesday. For Lehecka, it is only the second Grand Slam quarter-final of his career, earned with a gritty 7-6 (7/4), 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 win over French veteran Adrian Mannarino.

If Alcaraz can move past Lehecka, a much-anticipated clash with Djokovic looms in the final four.

Djokovic Dominant, Eyes Fritz Test

On the other side of the draw, the 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic, now 38 but still formidable, ended the run of German qualifier Jan-Lennard Struff.

Djokovic needed barely two hours to complete a 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 victory, advancing to his 58th Grand Slam quarter-final.

He now faces the lone American still standing in the men’s field, Taylor Fritz, who reached last year’s final and carries the nation’s last hopes of ending a 22-year drought for a US men’s major champion since Andy Roddick’s 2003 triumph.

Fritz arrived in the last eight, dismantling Czech 21st seed Tomas Machac 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 without facing a single break point.

Sabalenka Strolls, Pegula Awaits

In the women’s draw, World No. 1 and defending champion Aryna Sabalenka cruised into the quarter-finals with a 6-1, 6-4 dismantling of unseeded Spaniard Cristina Bucsa.

The Belarusian barely looked troubled, overwhelming Bucsa with her trademark power and consistency to continue her march toward a second consecutive US Open crown.

Sabalenka could face a stern test later in the tournament against American Jessica Pegula, the No. 4 seed and last year’s finalist, who booked her quarter-final berth by crushing compatriot Ann Li 6-1, 6-2.

Krejcikova’s Epic Survival

The most dramatic story of the day belonged to Barbora Krejcikova, who produced one of the great escapes of recent Grand Slam memory.

The unseeded Czech, a former French Open and Wimbledon champion, saved an extraordinary eight match points before defeating American Taylor Townsend 1-6, 7-6 (15/13), 6-3.

Now into the quarter-finals, Krejcikova faces Pegula.
