Iga Swiatek’s U.S. Open title defence came to a shocking end on Wednesday as Amanda Anisimova powered past her 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. It was a rematch of July’s Wimbledon final, where Swiatek had crushed the American 6-0, 6-0.
This time, Anisimova dictated play with fearless shot-making to reach her first semifinal in New York.

The Serbian improved to 11-0 against the American, whose loss ensures the U.S. men’s Slam drought extends beyond 22 years. Djokovic will now face five-time major winner Carlos Alcaraz, who eased past Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 6-2, 6-4. Djokovic leads their rivalry 5-3, having won their last two meetings, including at the Australian Open in January.Earlier, Felix Auger-Aliassime outlasted Alex de Minaur in a marathon 4-6, 7-6 (7), 7-5, 7-6 (4) quarterfinal that stretched four hours and 10 minutes.
The Canadian blasted 22 aces and 51 winners to reach his second career Slam semifinal, his first since 2021 at the same venue. De Minaur, now 0-6 in major quarterfinals, admitted: “Right now I see it as wasted chances.”Auger-Aliassime’s dream run has included wins over No. 3 Alexander Zverev, No. 15 Andrey Rublev and now No. 8 de Minaur.
