Carlos Alcaraz beat Jannik Sinner in four sets to win his second US Open title on Sunday in New York. The 22-year-old Spaniard won 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, showing his dominance with twice as many winners as Sinner. The victory also means Alcaraz will replace Sinner as the world's No.
1 tennis player, ending the Italian's 65-week reign at the top.The match was the third straight Grand Slam final between these two rivals. Except for the second set where Sinner found his rhythm, Alcaraz controlled the game. He hit 42 winners compared to Sinner's 21 and was particularly strong with his first serve, losing just nine points. The match lasted two hours and 42 minutes.Sinner showed great sportsmanship in defeat. "You are doing an amazing job," he told Alcaraz and his team.
"I know [there's] a lot of hard work behind this performance today, you were better than me. Enjoy it. It's a great moment."This win adds to Alcaraz's impressive year. He has won seven titles and 61 matches in 2025, leading all players on the tour. This is his first return to the No. 1 ranking since September 2023. He joins elite company as the second youngest man to win six major singles titles in the Open Era, behind only Bjorn Borg.

Sinner's loss ended his impressive 27-match winning streak at hard-court majors. He was trying to become only the seventh man in the Open Era to win three Grand Slam singles titles in one season. Further, his bid to successfully defend the US Open title was also quashed. That record will continue to be held by Roger Federer who won five US Open titles in a row between 2004 and 2008. No man has since been able to defend their titles in New York.Despite the loss, he made history as the youngest man in the Open Era to reach all four major finals in one season, including a thrilling Roland Garros final where he had three championship points before losing to Alcaraz.
