The United States has not asked Israel to agree to a ceasefire in Lebanon and the issue is not part of ongoing peace negotiations with Iran, Axios reported, citing a senior US official.
The remarks come as Israel’s Security Cabinet met on Wednesday to discuss the possibility of a ceasefire, with a US official saying President Trump would “welcome and be happy with an end of hostilities."

Cabinet Meet Ends Without Decision
Israeli officials said the war in Lebanon and a potential ceasefire were discussed during the meeting, which ended without any decision on halting hostilities.
The issue gained traction after a meeting hosted by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Tuesday between Israeli and Lebanese diplomats, where the Lebanese side raised the demand for a ceasefire.

Talks Continue Amid Tensions
Officials said both sides agreed to consult their leadership and revert, with discussions including possible confidence-building measures. Hezbollah has not publicly stated its position on the proposal.
While Israel, Lebanon and the US have maintained that the talks are separate from Iran negotiations, de-escalation in Lebanon could ease broader diplomatic efforts involving Tehran, the report said.
The development comes as US and Iranian negotiators continue discussions on a potential framework to end the conflict, with officials indicating some progress in recent talks.
