Minister for Irrigation and Civil Supplies N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said that he would meet Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai in Raipur on September 22, as part of his efforts to pursue a no objection certificate (NOC) for the Sammakka-Sarakka barrage and irrigation project.
The barrage, being constructed at Thupakulagudem in Jayashankar-Bhupalapally district across the river Godavari, seeks to stabilise 6.21 lakh acres of ayacut under the Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme and another 7.52 lakh acres under Sriramsagar Stage-I and II in Bhupalapally, Nalgonda and Khammam districts, by utilising 50 tmc ft of water. Another 50 tmc ft water would be used to meet the drinking water needs of the en route villages.
The Minister stated that the Telangana Government would assure the Chhattisgarh Government that it was committed to extend a fair and just compensation for land acquisition and relief and rehabilitation works in the submergence areas in the neighbouring State.
