 Main accused in athlete Vishal Singh’s attempted murder sentenced to life; 10 others get 14 years

VARANASI: The Special Judge for Corruption Prevention Act (UPSEB) on Thursday sentenced the main accused in the attempted murder of a national-level athlete (shooter) to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh.

Additionally, ten other convicts were sentenced to 14 years in prison and fined Rs 1 lakh each.According to reports, the athlete Vishal Singh, who opposed prostitution in the Sigra police station area, was shot in the Sigra area in September 2021. Vishal, who was injured by the gunshot, was admitted to a local hospital and later treated at a hospital in Gurgaon.His father, Ashok Kumar Singh, filed a report at the Sigra police station stating that his son opposed prostitution at Vijayanagaram Market.

He alleged that as part of a conspiracy, shooter Pankaj Gupta, along with Sarfaraz, Wasim, Parvez, Shahjahan, Nusrat Noorani, Zainulhaq, Anuj, Anoop, Ratan, Ravi, and Taufeeq, shot Vishal on September 29, 2021.The Special Judge for Corruption Prevention Act (UPSEB), Vinod Kumar, sentenced the guilty Pankaj Gupta to life imprisonment and a fine of one lakh rupees. Additionally, ten other convicts, including Sarfaraz, Wasim, Parvez, Shahjahan, Nusrat Noorani, Zainulhaq, Anuj, Ratan, Ravi, and Taufeeq, were sentenced to 14 years in prison and fined one lakh rupees each. During the trial, a total of 12 witnesses were examined by the prosecution. Among the accused, Anoop Gupta passed away during the trial.
