Uttarakhand man defrauds woman of Rs 22 lakh luring her of money
The Uttarakhand police on Sunday registered a complaint against three individuals, including a teacher, for allegedly defrauding a woman of Rs 22 lakh after promising her a government job. The police took action after receiving a complaint from Sarojini Joshi, a resident of the state’s Champawat district.
In her complaint, Joshi mentioned that in 2023, she came across a teacher, named Balwant Rautla, who offered her a government job in exchange for money. The accused also took her to Dehradun to meet Vinay Bhatt and Mayaram Soni at the state secretariat. The duo asked for Rs 22 lakh in exchange for the post of a manager in the social welfare department, as reported by the news agency PTI.
The woman further noted that upon receiving the money, they also provided her with an appointment letter. However, it soon turned out to be fake. When the woman started asking for the money back, all three of them started avoiding her.
Based on her complaint, the police registered a case under the relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and started investigating the matter. They are presently looking for the accused.
While investigating, the police discovered that Rautla is a habitual offender who allegedly committed similar crimes earlier as well. A man named Mohit Pandey filed a complaint against the same accused of defrauding him of Rs 40 lakh in exchange for a government job.
The investigation, based on Pandey’s complaint, is underway.
