Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced two new initiatives aimed at promoting education and environmental awareness in the state. As part of the first initiative, toppers of Class 10 and Class 12 in each district will be given the opportunity to serve as District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police for one day.
The move is intended to provide meritorious students with firsthand experience of administrative responsibilities, build their self-confidence, and inspire them to aim high in life. The programme will be rolled out across districts soon, with a detailed implementation plan currently being prepared.
In another decision, the Chief Minister has directed officials to organise 'River Festivals' named after major rivers of the state. These events will be community-driven and are meant to raise awareness about river cleanliness, conservation, and rejuvenation.
Highlighting the importance of rivers, Dhami said that they are not just sources of water but an integral part of Uttarakhand’s culture and way of life. Through such festivals, the government aims to involve citizens in efforts related to water conservation and hygiene.
These initiatives, according to the Chief Minister, reflect the state government’s commitment to both honouring academic excellence and promoting environmental responsibility.
