The V-P is in Seychelles for a two-day visit starting Sunday. This is his first official foreign visit since assuming office in September.
Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan attended the swearing-in ceremony of the President of Seychelles, Dr Patrick Herminie, in Victoria, Seychelles on Sunday on behalf of India.
In a post on X, the V-P’s office said he had conveyed his greetings and best wishes to the new President on behalf of the government and people of India.
Addressing a gathering of Indian diaspora earlier, he said his presence at the swearing-in ceremony underscored India’s “steadfast support for the government and people of Seychelles”.
“It is a moment to celebrate and reaffirm our shared commitment to democracy and to reflect on the enduring partnership between these two nations,” he said.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “MAHASAGAR – Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth across Regions” reflected “our shared commitment to a free, open and secure Indian Ocean”. He said Seychelles was a vital partner in this and in advancing priorities of the Global South.
