World No. 1 T20I team India will face Ireland in a two-match series. The first T20I between the two teams is scheduled to be played at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Belfast on Friday (June 26), while the same venue will host the second match on Sunday (June 28). India last played a T20I on March 8, 2026, when they defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
In their first T20I series since becoming the first team to win three T20 World Cup titles, India will play under a new captain and with several new faces in the squad. As many as seven players who were not part of India’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad have been selected for the Ireland series.
Here’s a look at the full list of changes in India’s squad for the T20I series against Ireland compared to the T20 World Cup 2026 squad:
Who’s In?
Shreyas Iyer is back in India’s T20I side, and the right-handed batter from Mumbai, who captains Punjab Kings in the IPL, will also lead the Men in Blue in the two-match T20I series against Ireland. Iyer, who last played a T20I for India in December 2023, was appointed India’s new T20I captain on June 6, 2026.
Apart from Iyer, spinner Ravi Bishnoi and fast bowlers Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana have returned to the side. They are joined by three uncapped players — Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Prince Yadav and Suryansh Shedge.
While Vaibhav and Prince were part of the 16-member squad announced on June 6, Shedge was added earlier this week as a replacement for the injured Nitish Kumar Reddy.
Who’s Out?
Suryakumar Yadav led India to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title in March, but he has been left out of the squad for the Ireland series. Along with him, left-handed batter Rinku Singh and spinner Kuldeep Yadav have also been dropped.
Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Hardik Pandya were part of India’s playing XI in the T20 World Cup 2026 final, but they have not been selected for the Ireland T20Is either.
Mohammed Siraj and Varun Chakaravarthy were initially picked by the selectors for the Ireland series on June 6, but both will miss the assignment. Siraj has been rested as part of workload management, while Varun is yet to recover from the injury he sustained during IPL 2026.
