US Vice President JD Vance has suggested that any future release of frozen Iranian assets could be structured to ensure the funds are used for civilian purposes, including the purchase of American agricultural goods “for the benefit of the Iranian people".
Speaking to reporters at Switzerland’s Burgenstock resort after the first round of US-Iran talks concluded early Monday, Vance said Washington would seek safeguards to ensure Iranian funds are not diverted to armed groups.
“We wanted to make sure that we set up a process where if- if we ever unfreeze Iranian assets, we can ensure that those- that that money, that Iranian money goes to help the people of Iran and not to fund terrorism," he said.
