Varanasi Municipal Corporation to utilise AI technology to detect unauthorised advertisements

VARANASI: The Varanasi Municipal Corporation is now going to utilise artificial intelligence (AI) technology to catch illegal and unauthorised advertisements. The technology aims to monitor and remove unauthorised advertising content, ensuring compliance with local regulations.

According to authorities, the adoption of AI-driven systems will enhance the efficiency of surveillance and enforcement efforts against illicit advertisements in the city.The municipal authorities said that the Varanasi Municipal Corporation will utilise AI technology in its departments. The first application of AI technology will be undertaken by the advertising department of the Municipal Corporation.

Through AI, there will be a curb on illegal advertisements in the city.Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari flagged off the AI-equipped vehicle from the Rudraksh Convention Center on Saturday. According to the municipal authorities, a small, technologically equipped vehicle selected by the organisation Skysign will survey the entire city. It will collect data on advertisements in the city using sensors, and after gathering the data, it will be recorded on a computer to determine which advertisements are authorised by the Municipal Corporation and which are unauthorised.

For unauthorised advertisements, AI will issue computer-generated notices, and fines will be collected. Every three months, a technically proficient vehicle will conduct a city-wide survey to identify illegal advertisements, and fines will be collected from those caught, significantly increasing the revenue of the Municipal Corporation.
