Varanasi to host 4th edition of Kashi Tamil Sangamam in December 2025
VARANASI: Varanasi is set to host the fourth edition of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam 2025 (KTS 4.0), envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, beginning on December 2. During the two-week event, over 1,400 delegates from Tamil Nadu, across seven diverse categories including students, teachers, writers and media, agri and allied sector, professionals and artisans, women, and spiritual scholars, will journey to Kashi to share, learn, and celebrate the deep-rooted connection between the two regions.Registrations for the Kashi Tamil Sangamam (KTS 4.0) are currently open to celebrate the eternal bond between Tamil Nadu and Kashi. According to its website, the theme of KTS 4.0 is "Let us Learn Tamil - Karpom Tamil." This will be a unifying feature of the event, spreading the message that all Indian languages are our languages and belong to one Bharatiya Bhasha family.This initiative aims to take Tamil to other parts of the country, signifying cultural oneness and expanding the horizon of ancient knowledge preserved in classical Tamil texts and its dissemination in other Indian languages.
It celebrates the linguistic diversity and unity of India while promoting the rich heritage of the Tamil language and literature.This year’s major highlights include the valedictory function at Rameswaram on December 15, marking the grand culmination of the event, and the launch of two new initiatives — “Tamil Karpom,” enabling students from North India to learn Tamil in Tamil Nadu, and the “Agasthya Expedition,” a journey from Tenkasi to Kashi showcasing Tamil Nadu’s rich contribution to the nation.
The Kashi Tamil Sangamam (KTS) is a continuing journey in search of knowledge and identifying the oneness of Indian culture. Building on the success of previous editions, this initiative strengthens the cultural and intellectual ties between Tamil Nadu and Kashi, embodying the spirit of Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat.The first edition of Kashi Tamil Sangamam was held from November 16 to December 15, 2022, as a GoI event of the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the state govt of Uttar Pradesh.
Over 2,500 people from Tamil Nadu, representing 12 different walks of life, travelled to Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Ayodhya on 8-day tours, during which they experienced different aspects of life in and around Varanasi. This event was organised at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.The second edition (KTS 2.0), held from December 17 to 30, 2023, at Namo Ghat in Varanasi, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The event featured the first-ever real-time, app-based translation of the PM's speech in Tamil for visiting delegates.The third edition (KTS 3.0) took place from February 15 to 24, 2025, highlighting the legacy of Sage Agasthyar and bridging Indian knowledge tradition with contemporary discourse. Around 1,000 delegates from Tamil Nadu participated, including an additional 200 students from various central universities.
