Varun Badola returns to TV after five years with Itti Si Khushi

Varun Badola, who was last seen in Mere Dad Ki Dulhan, is making his television comeback after a five-year hiatus. He will now be seen in the upcoming show Itti Si Khushi. Set against the backdrop of Mumbai, the family drama will follow the journey of Anvita Divekar, the eldest of six siblings, who unexpectedly becomes the backbone of her crumbling household.

The show captures the daily struggles of a young woman who steps up as a caregiver in the face of adversity.Varun plays Suhas, the father of the six siblings — a man battling alcoholism and emotional detachment. Though Suhas isn’t a conventional villain in Anvita’s life, his persistent neglect and inability to provide for the family compel her to take on a maternal role for her younger siblings. A charming swindler who survives on borrowed goodwill, Suhas deflects the pain of his wife’s absence with humour and angry outbursts, remaining a lingering presence in his children’s lives despite his unreliability.Speaking about the role, Varun says, “Suhas is a man constantly trying to escape responsibility, yet he isn’t entirely heartless. It’s a fine line to walk — portraying someone who isn’t a typical antagonist, but whose shortcomings have deeply affected his children. It’s a very layered character; one moment, he’ll frustrate you, and the next, he’ll break your heart.”In a conversation with us a few days before his last show concluded, Varun had shared, “Every good thing must come to an end. It is better to leave the stage when the audience asks ‘why’, and not when they start asking ‘when’. We always knew that Mere Dad Ki Dulhan was a finite series. It feels good that the story will meet its logical conclusion as planned. I have always believed that harr ant deta hai shuruaat ek nayi kahaani ko.
