Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan on Saturday (July 5, 2025) alleged that the Tamil Nadu government has failed to safeguard the State’s natural resources, leading to the depletion of valuable resources and a loss of revenue to the State exchequer.

In a statement, Mr. Vasan said the government had failed to protect key natural resources, such as sand and minerals. He pointed out that illegal sand mining was rampant across several districts, and accused the State government of failing to prevent “large-scale mineral smuggling” in Madurai, Tiruchi, Salem, Pudukottai, Krishnagiri, and Dharmapuri.

He said such unregulated mining and the illegal extraction of stones, gravel, and other minor minerals were detrimental to the environment. Alleging that the State government was acting as a “mute spectator,” he urged it to take strict action against the unchecked exploitation of natural resources.
