Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan on Friday urged the Tamil Nadu government to implement prohibition in a phased manner, citing the growing threat of alcoholism to public welfare.
Referring to a recent incident in Virudhunagar district, where a school student allegedly attacked his teacher with a liquor bottle on the school premises, Mr. Vasan expressed concern over alcoholism among students and youth.
He accused the State government of prioritising revenue from Tasmac liquor sales over the well-being of the public.
The State government should implement prohibition in a phased manner to ensure the welfare of people, he added.
