Vehicle underpass at Karnataka's Mani, Uppinangady to be opened from today

MANGALURU: The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) decided to open the two-lane portion of the Vehicle Underpass at Mani and the two-lane portion of the Vehicle Underpass at Uppinangady from Thursday for ease of traffic movement with speed restrictions, said Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta.

In addition, the left-hand side flyover at Kalladka Town will be open from June 2.Considering the early arrival of the monsoon, the public is facing difficulty in travelling on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru section of NH-75 in the Dakshina Kannada District due to ongoing work. For the convenience of the public, the matter was taken up with NHAI to clear the critical points for traffic purposes, the MP said.Complaints are being received regarding disruptions to traffic due to ongoing highway works between BC Road and Addahole, particularly as the monsoon gains momentum.

In response, MP Chowta issued strict instructions to NHAI officials to identify areas where construction is hampering vehicular movement and provide alternative arrangements without delay. Currently, on an all-party delegation visit abroad, Capt Chowta has been in constant touch with NHAI officials, stressing the need for proactive measures to prevent disruptions in vehicle flow. He also sought updates on areas within the district affected by ongoing roadwork due to heavy rains and instructed that such issues be addressed with urgency and priority.

NHAI was also instructed to resolve the waterlogging issue at Thumbe. As per the instructions, NHAI laid the pipe culvert, which starts draining water during rainfall, and on completion of the work, the problem will be resolved.It is learnt that 14.4 km out of 15.130 km of four-lane work has been completed from Addahole to Periyashanthi, and 41.52 km out of 48.485 km of four-lane work was completed between Periyashanthi and Bantwal. Senior NHAI officials conducted an inspection of the ongoing works on Tuesday.
