Venkatesh Prasad set to contest Karnataka State Cricket Association elections

Former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad is planning to contest in the upcoming Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) elections, scheduled between October and November. Prasad, who previously served as KSCA vice-president from 2013 to 2016, will return to cricket administration after focusing on coaching and media roles in recent years.The 56-year-old brings significant experience as a coach, selector, and administrator to his candidacy. Their complete panel of candidates will be announced in the coming days.The elections come as the current KSCA administration, led by Raghuram Bhatt, faces scrutiny following a tragic incident on June 4. Eleven fans died in a stampede near M Chinnaswamy Stadium during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL victory celebrations.The incident led to the resignations of KSCA secretary Shankar A and treasurer ES Jairam. The state cabinet approved criminal procedures against association officials, RCB representatives, and the event management firm DNA.

Legal proceedings are ongoing after the Justice D'Cunha Commission, appointed by the cabinet, submitted its findings to the government and state High Court.The KSCA secretary and treasurer positions currently remain vacant. Mruthyunjaya could potentially return to his previous role if the election goes as planned.The incumbent KSCA regime's term under Raghuram Bhatt will conclude on September 30, setting the stage for new leadership at the association.
