Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday expressed concerns about Jagdeep Dhankhar’s health, a day after he resigned as the Vice President of India, citing health reasons.

He extended best wishes to Dhankhar for a speedy recovery.

“We are all very concerned about his health. It is very sad that he’s got this sudden health issue. Our best wishes for his recovery," Tharoor told reporters as he arrived at the Parliament earlier today.

His reaction comes a day after Dhankhar abruptly resigned from his position in a letter to President Droupadi Murmu. He cited health reasons and medical advice as reasons behind his shocking resignation. Dhankhar, 74, had assumed office in August 2022 and would have completed his term in 2027.

Mixed reactions have come to the resignation, with several Opposition leaders extending best wishes to the VP, while some raising eyebrows over the sudden exit.

Congress has also asked him to reconsider his decision and continue in office.

“The sudden resignation of the Vice President and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha is as shocking as it is inexplicable. No doubt Mr Dhankhar has to give top most priority to his health. But clearly there is far more to his totally unexpected resignation than meets the eye," Congress Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh said on X.
