As the NHL offseason progresses, veteran forward Blake Coleman remains at the center of speculation surrounding the future of the Calgary Flames. While there's no trade speculation, NHL insider Pierre LeBrun reports that the market for the two-time Stanley Cup champion has been relatively quiet ahead of the NHL Draft.

Though Coleman is entering another season with the Flames, uncertainty surrounding the forward stems from Calgary's ongoing rebuild.

Pierre LeBrun reports Blake Coleman's future is uncertain amid quiet trade market

NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun has reported that Blake Coleman’s future with the Calgary Flames is uncertain, as the market has been relatively quiet about his trade. According to the NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun, teams may be interested in acquiring the two-time Stanley Cup winner, but with a $4.9 million salary, there's not a lot of room under the cap to make any moves just yet.In Calgary Flames, Coleman has been a valuable asset to the team, especially to the younger core featuring up-and-coming stars like Zayne Parekh, Matt Coronato, and Connor Zary. Over the years, he has battled through 639 regular-season games and another 65 in the playoffs, meaning he's seen a lot of action against the league's best.

With more than a decade of NHL experience, Coleman has appeared in 639 regular-season games and 65 playoff contest that makes him a valuable player both on and off the ice.

He has also established himself as one of the team's most productive and respected players.Taking to X, LeBrun wrote, “Trade market quiet for the moment on Blake Coleman. Obviously, that can change in a moment's notice. But, it sounds like the 10 teams on his approved trade list either don't have enough cap room to engage fully or some of the teams are working on other targets for now. Coleman, 34, has one year left on his deal at $4.9 million.”Coleman carries a $4.9 million cap hit, and many NHL teams are operating close to the salary cap, and teams are often reluctant to pay a premium for older players, even productive ones, unless they believe they are genuine Stanley Cup contenders. In fact, reports suggest that the Flames have more than $20 million in cap space, so there is no financial urgency to move Coleman. Apart from this, Coleman has a 10-team no-trade clause, limiting the number of destinations available. These perhaps have led the market to go silent. Calgary appears more interested in acquiring young NHL-ready players rather than simply collecting draft picks, and Calgary's lack of urgency will make the deal difficult to complete right now.
