Goodbye paper files, hello digital diaries! Kerala is rolling out e-Samrudha, a centralised repository that places animal health records, treatments, and vaccinations right at the fingertips of veterinarians and farmers.
Developed by the Department of Animal Husbandry with technical support from the Digital University, e-Samrudha aims to enhance animal welfare, strengthen disease management and empower livestock farmers. The State-level rollout of the project will begin with its official launch in Pathanamthitta on Saturday.
Through this system, veterinarians will have instant access to a centralised repository containing detailed health records, past treatment histories, vaccination schedules, and more. “This instant access to comprehensive data empowers veterinarians to make better-informed diagnoses and deliver targeted care, leading to improved health outcomes for animals,” an official explained.
The platform also comes with a user-friendly mobile app, serving as a one-stop service hub for farmers. With the app, farmers can easily book veterinary appointments, track complete treatment histories of their animals and view prescribed medications. At the same time, veterinary officials can use the app for real-time data entry during field visits, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records.
An initiative of the Government of Kerala under the Rebuild Kerala Initiative (RKI), e-Samrudha comes with a project outlay of ₹7.52 crore. It adopts a data-driven approach, integrating AI, data analytics and cloud computing. “By analysing the vast amount of data collected, the system can identify health trends, monitor the spread of diseases and evaluate treatment outcomes. This analytical capability will provide valuable insights for timely interventions and the formulation of evidence-based animal health policies,” the official added.
As part of the initiative, a pilot RFID-based animal traceability project was launched in Pathanamthitta, digitally mapping 50,000 cattle.
For the launch phase, all 61 clinical institutions under the Animal Husbandry Department in Pathanamthitta have implemented the healthcare management system. A full-scale state-wide rollout will soon follow.
Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development J. Chinchu Rani will formally inaugurate the e-Samrudha project at Adoor on Saturday.
