Saumya Tandon and Vibhu Raghave
Vibhu Raghave, best known for his role in Nisha Aur Uske Cousins, has died following a long battle with stage four colon cancer. The actor, whose real name is Vaibhav Kumar Singh Raghave, breathed his last in Mumbai, on June 2.
He was under treatment at Nanavati Hospital in Vile Parle. The actor’s dear friend Saumya Tandon shared details of his funeral on her Instagram. Saumya, along with a close circle of friends, has been supporting Vibhu and his family throughout his battle with cancer.
‘Vibhu fought cancer for four years with incredible bravery’
Speaking to us about the loss, Saumya said, “We lost Vibhu last evening. He had been in the hospital for a long time, fighting cancer for four years. He faced it with incredible bravery.
At first, none of us expected him to do so well. His sheer will to live, his positivity, and his faith in overcoming this disease have been such a profound life lesson for me. He never once spoke negatively about his life or his body. He was always so full of life and had such wonderful friends—friends I’ve grown close to as well.
Whenever you visited him at the hospital, he was never alone; he was always surrounded by friends.”
‘I thank everyone who supported our fundraising campaign’
Saumya, along with Vibhu’s friends including Simple Kaul, Addite Malik, Shamsi Abbas, Rahul Loomba, Tuhinaa Vohra, Tosher Govadia, Meenakshi Das, Amit Bhartiya, and others, helped raise funds for his treatment. “I really want to thank everyone who opened their hearts and supported our fundraising campaign. It truly shows that there is so much kindness in the world,” she shared.
‘Vibhu and I had talked about starting a blog Wednesdays With Vibhu’
The actress revealed that she had been working on a heartfelt digital project with Vibhu, which unfortunately never took off.
“Vibhu and I had talked about starting a blog inspired by the book Tuesdays With Morrie. He wanted to document his feelings during the last phase of his life. We planned to call it Wednesdays With Vibhu. We were all set to start recording, but he suddenly fell very ill. We had to cancel, and he was rushed to the hospital— he never returned.
It just goes to show how fragile and transient life is. It deeply saddens me because he was so full of life, in his forties, and never really got the chance to live it fully.
I’m grateful to him for introducing me to his beautiful friends and for teaching me such brave lessons. I’ll strive to be the best version of myself and to smile through every dark phase of life.”
‘Vibhu’s family has become like family to me’
Saumya also took a moment to honor Vibhu’s family. “The way his mother and brother stood by him—dedicating their lives to his care—was truly remarkable. They have become like family to me,” she concluded.
Vibhu antim darshan will be held today from 12:30 PM onwards, followed by a funeral procession, 1 pm onwards, from 11, Relief Road, Prakash Nagar Dnyaneshwar Nagar, Jogeshwari West, Mumbai.
