Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan will be visiting Shravanabelgola, a noted Jain pilgrimage centre in Channarayapatna taluk of Hassan district in Karnataka, on November 9. He will take part in the ceremony to install a statue of Shantisagar Muni Maharaja.

The Jain mutt at Shravanabelgola has organised the event to commemorate the centenary year of Shantisagar Muni Maharaja’s visit to Sharavanabelgola. He visited the place in 1925 to take part in the Mahamastakabhisheka, the grand anointment of the Bahubali statue. The grand anointment, held once in 12 years, attracts a huge number of devotees.

Abhinava Charukeerthy Bhattaraka Swamy of the mutt told mediapersons that a 10.5 feet tall statue of Shantisagara Maharaj would be installed on the hillock next to Vindhyagiri on November 9. The naming of the hillock would be held on the same day. Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot, former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, and Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy are among those expected to take part in the programme.

Hassan Deputy Commissioner K.S. Lathakumari and other officers of the district administration visited Shravanabelgola on November 4 to discuss the preparations for the Vice-President’s visit.
