Shivakumar recounted his ordeal in a social media post saying he was forced to pay bribes from the ambulance driver, police for the FIR and the autopsy report, to crematorium workers to get a receipt and civic workers for the death certificate
A sub-inspector and a constable attached to the Bellandur Police Station have been suspended following complaints of corruption by a victim’s father on social media, which went viral.
Sivakumar K., 64, a former Chief Financial Officer of a Public Sector Undertaking, lost his daughter Akshaya Shivakumar, 34, an IIM and IIT graduate working with an multinational company, to brain haemorrhage on September 18.
This triggered a medico-legal case and an unnatural death report was filed.
Mr. Shivakumar recounted his ordeal in a social media post saying he was forced to pay bribes from the ambulance driver, police for the FIR and the autopsy report, to crematorium workers to get a receipt and civic workers for the death certificate.
“The inspector of Bellandur Police Station was so arrogant with no empathy to a father who lost his only child,” he said, adding his attitude changed once his former employers pulled the right strings.
Saying this was a very sad state, he lamented while he had the money, paid bribes, what would the poor do.
As this post went viral on social media on Wednesday, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield Division) suspended the two policemen and initiated an inquiry into the incident.
