Complaints were raised against officials of two major government departments at a public meeting of the Ernakulam District Vigilance Committee (DVC) held here on Saturday (January 17, 2026).

Most complaints filed by those who attended the meeting were against officials of the Local Self-Government (LSG) and Revenue departments, sources said. Of the eight complaints received at the meeting, four each were against officials of the LSG and Revenue departments. The remaining one pertained to the Irrigation department, sources said.

The complaints pertained to issues such as waste management in Thrikkakara municipality, inaction against pollution caused by quarrying, and alleged loss of land due following digital resurvey, sources added.

“Most complaints are about delay in getting services delivered, rather than corruption allegations. However, we will be probing all angles. The complaints will be forwarded to the officers concerned and further action will be taken based on their report,” an official said.

The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) will initiate investigations into cases that the agency finds require its attention, it is learnt. At the meeting held at the Collectorate Conference Hall, it was widely opined that public cooperation was essential to eradicate corruption. The meeting proposed displaying the phone number of the head of the office concerned at all government institutions.

Additional District Magistrate Vinod Raj and VACB Ernakulam unit DySP T.M. Varghese headed the meeting. Five complaints received at the previous meeting have been resolved. The Vigilance meeting is held every three months.
