Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is planning to hold a statewide protest on November 16 against the Social Impact Rating (SIR) exercise being carried out across Tamil Nadu. The demonstration, however, is subject to approval from the state government.

According to party sources, TVK cadres will take part in the protest while party chief Vijay is not expected to join the agitation on the ground.

The party has begun tentative planning but will finalise the programme only after receiving official permission.

Meanwhile, responding to TVK’s move, DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may have instructed TVK to organise the protest. He also questioned Vijay’s silence on the issue.

He said that Vijay has not issued a single statement against SIR and is trying to replicate the statewide protest model that DMK adopted..

TVK is awaiting the government’s decision on granting permission for the proposed demonstrations.

The ruling DMK and its allies had already staged a statewide protest on November 11 against SIR, alleging it was “flawed and risky” and could result in genuine voters being removed.
