Canara Bank on Tuesday said its customers need not panic over the recent incident of theft in Vijayapura district and also assured them that “the gold kept in the bank’s custody was fully insured”.
The bank’s statement comes in the wake of a theft reported at one of its branches in Managuli town in Basavanabagewadi taluk of Vijayapura district, where valuables worth over ₹53 crore were stolen.
“We urge our valued customers not to panic over the recent incident in Vijayapura district of Karnataka State,’‘ said an official statement from the bank.
It promised that the gold kept in the bank’s custody was fully insured under a comprehensive policy, and that Canara Bank was “financially robust and fully committed to safeguarding customer interests”.
Canara Bank further said the police investigations were progressing swiftly, and it was confident that the culprits would be apprehended soon.
“[The] bank is custodian of the assets of the customers and all affected customers’ interest will be duly protected,” it reassured its customers.
The police on Tuesday stated that cash, valuables, including gold jewellery, were stolen from the branch at Managuli town on May 25. Miscreants stole 58 kg 975 grams of gold and ₹5.2 lakh in cash from the bank.
