Renowned veteran Vijayaraghavan displayed humility after missing out on the Kerala State Film Award for his performance in Kishkindha Kaandam. He expressed that accolades don't define his impressive 40-year journey in cinema, insisting that the admiration of the audience is what truly matters.
Veteran Malayalam actor Vijayaraghavan has responded with grace and maturity to missing out on recognition at the 55th Kerala State Film Awards. The actor, who received critical acclaim for his role in Kishkindha Kaandam, said that awards have never dictated the course of his career. "I’ve spent over 40 years in this industry — if I let every missed award disappoint me, I would’ve quit acting a long time ago." Vijayaraghavan said in an interview with Onmanorama.Reflecting on his long journey, the actor noted that there have been several performances close to his heart, including his role in Leela. "It’s not just about Kishkindha Kaandam — I’ve delivered strong performances in many films. Awards or not, it doesn’t affect me.
What really matters is continuing in this industry and earning the love and support of the audience," he shared.
'I never expect any kind of award'
When asked whether he anticipated a win this year, Vijayaraghavan was quick to clarify that he never has any expectations. “I never expect any kind of award. Even when I received the National Award or the State Award earlier, I hadn’t anticipated them. During the early days of my career, I used to expect awards, but over time, when they didn’t come, I learnt not to.
It doesn’t affect me anymore,” he said. The actor had earlier won both the National Award and the Kerala State Award for Best Character Actor in 'Pookkaalam' (2023).
Prakash Raj clarifies jury’s decision
Meanwhile, jury chairman Prakash Raj addressed media questions regarding Vijayaraghavan’s omission from the winners’ list.He emphasized that not receiving an award does not diminish the actor’s stature or contribution. “Vijayaraghavan delivered an excellent performance in Kishkindha Kaandam. However, when I watched Siddharth’s performance in 'Bramayugam' and Soubin’s in 'Manjummel Boys', I felt they handled extremely challenging roles with great depth and brilliance,” Prakash Raj explained.“It’s about assessing a year’s worth of films — and this time, the competition was truly strong,” he concluded.
