Vijayawada makes it to Super Swachh League, says Mayor

The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has been selected for the Super Swachh League under Swachh Survekshan, 2024, announced Mayor Rayana Bhagya Lakshmi and Commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra in a press statement Saturday (July 12).

Expressing their gratitude to residents, sanitation workers and staff, the Mayor said the award would be presented by President Droupadi Murmu to the VMC at a ceremony in New Delhi on July 17.

Mr. Dhyanachandra said it is a matter of great pride that Vijayawada was selected for the Super Swachh League in the very first year of its introduction, under Swachh Survekshan 2024, alongside Indore, Navi Mumbai and Surat.

Calling it a remarkable achievement and dedicating the award to sanitation workers and citizens, the Commissioner said despite the Budameru floods in 2024, the city remained among the top-performing cities and secured the position in Swachh Survekshan.

The Commissioner noted that during the disaster, the city managed flood-related waste and sanitation issues, thanks to the support from Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development Ponguru Narayana, Principal Secretary S. Suresh kumar, Director of Municipal Administration (DMA) P. Sampath Kumar and over 10,000 sanitation workers, over 200 officials.
