The Marine Biology Department of Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU), Nellore, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai, to collaborate on student fellowships and joint research initiatives.
A total of ₹4.12 crore has been sanctioned to develop the department as a ‘Centre of Excellence’. “This collaboration presents a significant opportunity for VSU,” said Vice-Chancellor Allam Srinivas Rao.
Addressing the media on Friday with Registrar K. Sunitha, Principal Ch. Vijaya, and Marine Biology Head Hanuma Reddy, he outlined the key features of the partnership. Fellowships will be awarded to students starting from the academic years 2025-26, 2026-27, and 2027-28. Based on PGCET ranks, the top 15 students will receive ₹10,000 per month for 10 months each year, for a duration of two years. During the fourth semester, 10 students will be awarded ₹5,000 per month for six months. The fellowship also provides an opportunity for students to pursue a postgraduate degree in Marine Biology.
Additionally, ₹2.12 crore has been allocated for state-of-the-art laboratory equipment. NIOT scientists will contribute by delivering guest lectures and conducting specialised training programmes.
