Villagers attack murder accused, police in Palnadu district

Tension prevailed in Yerrabalem village of Krosuru mandal in Palnadu district when the police came for investigation of a murder case, on Tuesday. According to police, a shepherd, Venkateshwarlu Naik, allegedly killed his son, Mangya Naik (19), due to family disputes and buried the body near a canal.

Following a complaint, the police arrested Venkateshwarlu, and brought him to Yerrabalem for scene reconstruction. The enraged villagers and the family members tried to attack the accused who had been in Krosuru police custody. When the police tried to stop the villagers, they attacked Circle Inspector (CI) Suresh and other police personnel.

Police eventually dispersed the villagers and brought the situation under control. Efforts are on to identify those who resorted to the attack, a police officer said.
