Villagers clash with cops after man dies in accident in Agra

Agra: A 22-year-old man was killed and three others injured after a speeding SUV rammed into a motorcycle and a scooter on the Fatehabad-Firozabad road in Agra on Monday, triggering protests and clashes between villagers and police.

A tractor-trolley overturned into a roadside ditch after its driver lost control while trying to avoid the collision.The SUV occupants fled the scene after the accident.The motorcycle rider, Manish Kumar, died on the spot, while the scooter rider and two others, including the tractor-trolley driver, sustained injuries.Angry villagers blocked the road by placing the victim’s body on the carriageway, demanding action against those responsible.

The protesters also vandalised the SUV involved in the crash.Police faced resistance while attempting to clear the road and send the body for postmortem, with some protesters allegedly resorting to stone-pelting. Additional police personnel were deployed to restore order.Fatehabad ACP Imran Ahmed said, “Some anti-social elements attempted to block the road and stage a protest. Police used mild force to clear the highway and restore traffic movement. The body has been sent for postmortem, and legal proceedings are underway.”
